Both are strictly necessary. Without the first one there is no way to issue a key at all.

We cannot read these cookies and we never receive them. Each company's own privacy policy governs what it does with them.
Turning them off
Every browser can block or clear cookies from its settings, and an ad blocker stops most advertising cookies before they are ever set. Two things to expect if you do: ads may still appear but stop being relevant to you, and blocking this site's own session cookie stops the key system working, because there is then nothing to remember which checkpoint you reached.
